100 Pictures Challenge #89: Through the Fire. A bomber crew is caught off-guard by bogeys flying out of the sun.
I started this god knows how long ago, but stopped halfway and didn't get around to finishing it until my Great Internet Blackout. (No greater motivation for finishing pictures than a media blackout!). In case you're wondering why WWII bombers (read: B-17s) crop up in my gallery every two years or so... well, I never got over my childhood obsession with Flying Fortresses, or my ridiculous dream of flying them. Or any other plane, really. So every so often when the nostalgia returns I do something utterly pointless, like buy a Hamilton aviators' watch, or get Wings of Prey, or... paint airplanes.
[Admittedly, this picture was inspired by a single line from the movie, Memphis Belle: "Jesus, there's a hole in the pilot's window." Well, this particular one is obvious not in the *pilot*'s, but you see how this came about. LOL.]
Tech note: Plexiglass doesn't normally shatter unless you happen to hit it at a stress point, I believe. I guess the bogey was just lucky. You'll just have to suspend your belief, lol.
Does his jacket say Lucky Lady? X3 Every February some of the big WWII bombers and a Mustang come into Leesburg Intl Airport in Florida; visitors are allowed to ride in them for about 200 something dollars, and look around inside just for an entrance fee. Don't know if you knew that...you might have already been there, for all i know XD
I've always wanted to go up in one of those WWII bombers (a Flying Fortress, preferably, but I'll take any of 'em!); alas, I don't live in the US - heck, I'm not even in a country that has WWII aircraft. So all I can do is ogle all those air show photographs online...
Dude i would so love to be in a B-17 during a fight...... and i could name just about every plane that you show me from WWII and hat you got atacking them ME-109's
That is so cool! D: I'm obsessed with P-47 Thunderbolts and I so wish I could fly them today! Wrong century though, and even if I was in the right century, wrong gender! xD This is an absolutely amazing artwork, so much movement!
Oh yeah, fighter escorts! I love British and German WWII fighters as well; always had a bit of a soft spot for the P-47s and ME Bf-109s myself. And pah, wrong gender - I believe quite a number of women were pilots during that era.
Oh yes, that's what I want to do! The Spitfire and the Me-109's are a couple of my favorites haha. And yes, the WASP's! Unfortunately they didn't get to dogfight haha!

Thanks!
And you are welcome!
Have you ever thought about getting your pilot's licence?
