So I'm a sucker for the Star Wars X-Wing series.
I drew the lineart for this back in May last year as part of a series on the lesser-known/unsung/forgotten X-Wing heroes of the War... which, unfortunately, like half of my projects, never got off the ground. So it remained, forgotten, in a dusty folder for more than half a year -
- Until I found it again last week, when I was looking for existing lineart to use to test a new texture brush I made to simulate the effect of smear/smudge/add water blending, (when no such thing has taken place). I figured I'd toss some colours on Jek; I wound up doing that to *all* of them. Stranger things have happened. NOTES
The lineup (Jek Porkins/ Cesi "Doc" Eirriss"/ Derek "Hobbie" Klivian/ Biggs Darklighter/ Wedge Antilles) is based on two comics: X-Wing: Rogue Squadron (1997; written by Michael Stackpole and Mike W. Barr) and Biggs Darklighter (2004; written by Paul Chadwick). The Hobbie here [obviously] isn't Stackpole/Allston's comic relief Hobbie "Bacta" Klivian, but Chadwick's cocky, slightly arrogant mutiny leader (and temporary captain) on the Rand Ecliptic, and one of the Rebel Alliance pilots who stole the X-Wings that would become the signature ship of the RA starfighter fleet.
Oh, and because somebody asked about this: Yes, Wedge *is* that short. (Okay, he was actually shorter than that, but I didn't want him to disappear off the page, LOL). He was described in some of the books as being 'under average height'; the Star Wars Essential Guide to Character lists his height as 1.70m. Biggs, on the other hand... While I don't know his exact height, I do know that he was over 6', and that he *towers* over Luke Skywalker, who stands at 1.72m.
And okay, so Hobbie and Wedge went on to star in more X-Wing comics/books... but you gotta admit they've been vastly overshadowed by other supporting characters. Ah heck.
Characters created by George Lucas/Michael Stackpole.
