Artist's Comments

I wanted to do a portrait video walkthrough to mark my third year here at dA (a portrait's the only thing I feel confident enough filming!). When I asked :iconwraithten: for suggestions of somebody who wasn't *too* famous but not completely obscure either, she began lobbing picture after picture of Grant Imahara from Mythbusters at me... Oh whoops, I wasn't supposed to tell them that? sorry...

After repeated attempts to edit and stitch all nine parts of the video together, I admit failure. The damn things can stay in nine pieces if they want, LOL. You can download any or all nine parts here:

:bulletblue: Part 1 - How to start with a really ugly rough sketch -

:bulletblue: Part 2 - And how to trace nice, neat lines over it.

:bulletblue: Part 3 - Green skin isn't only for aliens. [Or: is Grant *really* human?]

:bulletblue: Part 4 - How to turn green skin orange.

:bulletblue: Part 5 - How to turn orange skin even more orange.

:bulletblue: Part 6 - Going a little overboard throwing colours on the skin. (I'm crazy. Bite me).

:bulletblue: Part 7 - Why green hair with maroon lights is acceptable on television.

:bulletblue: Part 8 - Fabric, folds and fluff. Or, how to end up with a completely different coloured shirt from the one you started out with.

:bulletblue: Part 9 - How to go really insane trying to fix stuff nobody will ever see. I'm currently having insane trouble getting this part up; please check back later. If you're crazy enough to want to see me fixing what's not broken!!

[They're all in .flv Flash Video format - which seems to be the format for the majority of videos at YouTube these days - so you shouldn't have any difficulty opening them. If you need a Flash Video player, you can get one here: [link] ]

So yeah. I'm really, really sorry about the size and quality of the video(s). It's my first time using Cam Studio, and I didn't have the good sense to check how big my files would be, or indeed what file format I was even recording!! [Which meant that, when I compressed them, they wound up with the general consistency of oatmeal porridge.] So much for wanting to show the tools and colours I was using, and the modifications I was making to my brushes! (I'm going to blame my lack of judgment on my having been miserably ill for the past three days, and was still running a temperature at the time I did this). I *still* have the humongous original files, all totalling 4.84GB (you read that right) if anyone wants them, although I have no idea how I'm going to distribute *those* short of burning them on a DVD and posting them out by snail mail! Something about the best-laid plans of mice and men...

If anyone has any suggestions on how I can record high quality videos at reasonable dimensions at small file sizes, please let me know, in case I ever get crazy enough to do another one of these walkthroughs. ;)

Oh, and by the way, I highly recommend that you view the videos on Fast Forward, as I would feel tremendously guilty if anybody died of old age while watching them.

I'll let you know what I think when it finishes downloading...perhaps when I'm back from vacation. :bored:

Portrait of Grant is great though. :D

Wow, great! I'm definitely going to watch those :D

What's the original file type? My other half might know a way of converting them to a manageable file size/type without losing too much quality. (I can at least ask - he manages to find a way to MacGuyver files to behave so often it boggles my mind :giggle:)

I'll watch these videos soon, you can count on that. Color is so hard.

He's one of my favourite Mythbusters ever. His hands look really small in contrast with his head. A little creepy.

LOL! well, that's more to do with his genetics than it has to do with my paintbrush.

LOL! Well, I'm sending :iconwraithten: the video DVD, so if you want a version in which you can actually see my brush settings and stuff, you could maybe arrange for a copy? I warn you though - that UNDO button flashes so many times per minute it's not even funny.

Hey, if he knows of a way, that would be awesome. :D The original files are in AVI format (982x 870).
