Retrospective by DarthFar Retrospective by DarthFar
[more paintings of people nobody cares about. ;)]

The Pet Shop Boys will be thirty this year. Hailed as the most successful duo in UK music history, the electronic dance/synthpop group (which consists of Neil Tennant and Chris Lowe) has 3 BRIT Awards, one movie and roughly 301 albums to their name (10 of them studio albums) as well as over 100 million records sold, and has diversified in recent years to musical, soundtrack and ballet.

They were also the first band I ever listened to. Overnight, I went from being a geeky little kid who listened to only classical music, to being a geeky little kid who listened to classical music *and* the Pet Shop Boys. My musical taste has expanded since, but they're still my favourite group on the planet.

NOTES

:bulletblue: Painting was done with the bog standard hard brush (as usual) and two of my own custom brushes, but the layout and graphics were done with Corel's shape tools. If there are *any* PSB fans among my watchers, maybe you'd like to hazard a guess as to what the icons represent. (Along with what else might be hiding in the picture. ;)).

:bulletblue: I initially had Neil wearing a fedora, but then I decided it really wasn't him (and besides, it made him look like a goddamn reporter2) and changed it. Click here to see the first version: [link]

3. The text are shamelessly pilfered PSB song titles. Just because.

1 35 if you count the list on their website; 27 if you just count the ones listed on Wiki.
2 Mind you, though, he *was* once News Editor of Smash Hits, so maybe that counts for something.

Amazing work. The likenesses are unmistakable, the expressions very fitting for their on-stage personae.

The Pet Shop Boys are just awesome! I've been listening to them more and more lately, I'm getting addicted to them. They just have such a refreshing and brilliant style.

As always I can't but be in sheer awe with your art and guilelessly envy your mad skills.

:highfive: I'm glad you're taking to them, Romy! And yes, their style is refreshing: it changes with each album, but somehow still remains recognisably Pets. Have you listened to their ballet album, btw? (The Most Incredible Thing, based upon a story by Hans Christian Andersen).

And thanks very much!
