Much as I try to stray from realism... the fact remains that I *need* the occasional dose of it.
  has identified the root of it: I do realism for the catharsis - for the satisfaction of knowing I am fully in control. (Being the control freak I am, should that surprise anyone?).Painted for my dad, because his office has too much wallspace and not enough stuff on it. Incidentally, that *is* his hand and violin; he was kind enough to model for me. (Or should I say, he was blackmailed into it  ).Submitted to  |

And I totally understand your need for realism. I wonder if that's my reason also.
"Digital Art > Paintings > People" instead of:
"Digital Art > Drawings > People"
a silly notion, because anything digital is neither drawn nor painted -- except that a paint brush rather than a pencil tool is used (but it looks more like a painting than a drawing)
