You're right about it working both digitally and traditionally: I actually started using many thin layers of paint after I read what this guy who did oil painting (Hank1, I think) said about getting the skin to glow through the application of many, many glazes. And for me, the advantage of digital media having a CTRL+Z option is offset by the sheer inability to rotate your "paper" to a more comfortable position (unless you have a Cintiq) and less steady strokes.
